Friends of the Palm Harbor Library present Theresa Villani & Kevin Johnson for Green Grow the Lilacs.
Traditional Irish music is one of the most popular world music genres of our time. It is ancient but also compellingly modern and endures because it expresses so eloquently the deep feelings we all share.
Green Grow the Lilacs is an Irish folk song that was popular in the United States during the mid-19th century. Lilacs are often associated with love and romance and the song lyrics about changing the color of the lilacs from green to red, white and blue express the desire to prove to the beloved undying love, loyalty, and commitment.
Theresa Villani, violoncello, soloist, chamber musician, researcher, editor, recording artist - inveterate seeker with an unquenchable curiosity about ignored and little-known music of merit for the cello, creates programs that encompass genres from classical to pop.
Kevin Johnson, organist and pianist; Kevin has collaborated with Theresa Villani previously playing recorders and harpsichord. Most recently he has been involved in the installation of a new pipe organ for St. Alfred's built by the Casavant Freres organ building firm, St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada. Kevin is a member of the Clearwater Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and has served as Dean and in many other capacities. He also teaches piano and organ.
